$LTC is up about 47% in a month while $BTC is up about 7%. Most people point at the Grayscale ETF filing, but the numbers say it explains only part of the move.
What is confirmed: on September 11, Grayscale filed an amended registration statement to convert its Litecoin trust into a spot ETF on NYSE Arca. It is a request. The SEC has not approved it or given a timeline.
What doesn't add up: the existing spot Litecoin ETF from Canary Capital held about $8.6 million in net assets on September 22. All U.S. Litecoin funds together hold about 175,000 LTC, roughly $13 million, against a market cap near $5.7 billion. Fund buying alone can't explain a 47% move.
What to watch: futures open interest is around $670 million, up $270 million in a week and close to the January peak of $690 million. That points to more leveraged positions. The last time it reached similar levels, LTC fell from $80 to about $53 in the following weeks.
Is this an ETF story, a rebound after a year that left LTC down about 31%, or leverage? Curious what you think.
