Was Bitcoin hacked?
Answer: No, but what happened was more than that
What happened:👇
The hack targeted only hot and warm wallets, which are the wallets connected to the internet to process withdrawals and deposits. As for cold wallets and users’ funds, they remained completely safe. The platform said it has a three-layer infrastructure, and the hack affected only part of the hot layer.
🥸Analysts initially spotted abnormal transfers of about $183 million from wallets belonging to the exchange, through three hot and cold wallets that spanned multiple networks. The funds were collected into a single address, including assets such as ETH, BNB, AVAX, and USDT0.
😱If the losses reach $351.6 million, this will become the biggest hacking incident in 2026. The platform temporarily paused withdrawals, but deposits and trading are still active. It said its user protection fund exceeds $464 million to cover the losses.
🕵️♂️Investigators linked the attack to a North Korean hacking group through VPN addresses that had been used before.
✍️Summary:
Bitcoin as a network wasn’t broken. What was compromised were the bridges
and the platforms that build services on top of it. Because these places consolidate billions into one wallet—one vulnerability is enough to drain it all.
