Block integrates Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into the x402 payment standard
On September 24, Block announced that it has integrated Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into the x402 payment standard. According to Odaily, the x402 protocol can verify payment requests after a server returns an HTTP 402 response, and unlock data using Lightning invoices and payment preimages.
Steve Lee, head of Block’s open-source Bitcoin code development unit, said that the integration aims to enable instant, low-cost micropayments. Block has not disclosed a timeline for bringing the standard to Cash App, Square, or Bitkey, and the Python implementation still needs testing on a real node.$BTC $R2
