Reached TokenPost: StarkWare, Yukon Research and Eigen Labs took on a Quantum-Safe Bitcoin optimization challenge, cutting the GPU compute cost for constructing a single QSB transaction from about $320 to about $67 in just one week—down nearly 79%. Next, the dashboard simulates 100 RTX 3090 cards and shows roughly $63 more in compute—this is the compute overhead before broadcasting, not an on-chain transaction fee.

The challenge runs starting September 16, with prizes starting around $20,000. The tracks focus on transaction pinning and subset selection. On the RTX 4090 baseline, pinning throughput jumps from about 146 million to over 820 million candidate/sec. Submissions also include tags such as GPT, GPT-6 Astra, and so on. The first QSB landed on the mainnet on August 26, with no soft fork needed.

Bitcoin with QSBs mainly protects public keys that haven’t been exposed yet; it doesn’t mean the entire Bitcoin network suddenly becomes quantum-resistant overnight. StarkWare’s CEO also said that soft forks remain the better long-term answer, but at least now there’s another fallback option where compute costs can still be pushed down.
