The Monero patch list is still moving forward|Code merges don’t mean a new version is already released|XMR at 553, I’ll wait

My stance is to treat “ongoing project maintenance” as a long-term core skill, not to use development backlogs as a price-catalyst for tonight. Today, I routinely skim the Binance hot list and search rankings in the Plaza and didn’t see any upward tags that directly point to XMR and would also be precise enough to participate accurately. Compared with piggybacking on stablecoin or ETF talking points, I’d rather check Monero’s own release status.

In the official GitHub, the maintainer still lists v0.18.5.3 as an open release backlog. It states that several changes need to be merged, tests completed, and issues resolved, planned to be the last version in the 0.18 series. The backlog involves items such as a restricted RPC exposure surface, P2P handling, wallet state, and database stability. This is engineering scheduling, not an already-deployed new consensus upgrade, and it can’t prove that all nodes have deployed these fixes.

I specifically distinguish three stages: code merged into a branch, a formal version packaged and released, and users and node operators actually upgrading. If even one stage is missing, you can’t directly count the potential improvements toward the network’s current security level. For example, the checklist item about changes related to reserving proof verification shows in the official PR that it was merged into the release-v0.18 branch in August; that only proves the code entered the candidate release track—it doesn’t mean that as of September 26 the new version has been pushed to all users. The official release page currently still lists v0.18.5.1 as the latest recommended core software version, and it includes signature and hash verification instructions.

I won’t market “all vulnerabilities are fixed” based on an “already merged” tag, and I won’t render a normal engineering backlog as if the network is currently under attack. If you use a wallet, verify the version, hash, and signature from the official site’s release page—not download so-called early upgrade packages from unfamiliar group chats.

This kind of information affects market mechanisms more slowly: reliable wallets, nodes, and interfaces make the transfer experience and infrastructure more sustainable, but they don’t change same-day buy pressure the way exchange listings do. In the short term, price is still mainly influenced by overall liquidity and XMR trading channels.

Kraken’s XMR/USD is around $553.34 right now. In the past 24 hours, the high was $571.4 and the low was $545.52, with the opening at $557.51. Being below the open suggests the market hasn’t re-priced itself due to the backlog list. Whether price can regain and hold above the 558 area is the first checkpoint I’m watching. If $545.5 is broken, the bounce thesis should be withdrawn. Here, I’m not making a causal leap of “developers are busy, so it must go up.”

If this were my own trade: I’m not participating. My only consideration would be a small spot-position attempt in the direction; I wouldn’t touch high leverage. I’d need two consecutive complete 15-minute candlesticks closing above 559, then a pullback to hold the 556–559 zone, and also no further worsening of XMR deposit/withdrawal status at the main trading venue. Only then would I enter with at most 0.25% of total capital; reduce by half at 565, and close the remaining position at 571. If after entry price falls back below 551, I’d reduce by half again, then cut the position and fully close with a stop at 548. If before entry it first drops below 545.5, the plan is cancelled.

If the official release page continues to have no new version yet someone claims “the mainnet security patch is completed today,” or if price spikes up and then falls back below 558, I’ll close positions or remain in cash. Discipline comes before narrative; engineering progress should wait for verifiable versions and adoption data.
