LAYERZERO: 13 LOW-ACTIVITY CHAINS ARE LOSING OFF-CHAIN SUPPORT
LayerZero is gradually ending off-chain support for 13 low-activity blockchains, including Aurora, Taiko, Japan Open Chain, LightLink, Viction, Animechain, XPLA, Merlin, Gnosis, Zora, Otherworld Space, XAI and opBNB. These networks will no longer have access to LayerZero’s DVN and Executor services.
My take: this looks more like infrastructure restructuring than a purely negative signal. When network activity is low, maintaining verification and cross-chain execution services may no longer justify the operational resources required. Focusing on networks with stronger real demand could improve LayerZero’s resource allocation, but it also highlights the infrastructure dependency faced by smaller ecosystems.
The more immediate impact is on assets using Stargate Hydra. Some affected chains will lose Hydra support, and LayerZero recommends that users redeem assets such as USDC.e, wETH and Hydra USDT on the relevant chains. I would not react simply to the list of 13 networks; I care more about the exact effective dates and how much liquidity is actually affected.
