A San Diego federal jury on Friday found that Apple infringed patents held by Masimo Technology and ordered the company to pay more than $5.7 billion. According to Sina Finance, the case involved vibration-related technology used in the iPhone and Apple Watch.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California reached its verdict after two days of partial hearings and found that Apple infringed claims in two haptic feedback patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 10,659,885 and 10,820,117, but did not do so willfully. According to Sina Finance, Masimo Technology filed the lawsuit against Apple in 2021, and the two patents describe a "haptic transducer capable of generating low-frequency vibrations perceptible to the sense of touch."
