The U.S. market just opened, and $BTC already broke down below 85,000.
The reason isn’t complicated: the U.S. PMI data is too strong, and the market is betting that the Fed will still hike rates again before the end of the year. Williams even directly said that it’s reasonable for another rate hike to happen before year-end. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury hit a new high since 2007; the Nasdaq fell as well, and the crypto market was hit too.
My take: this feels more like a macro-driven valuation wipeout, not that something specific went wrong in crypto itself. Rate expectations are the driver here—risk assets are collectively uncomfortable, and $ETH $SOL is getting beaten up the same way.
On the other hand, oil is stirring things up: the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked. Iran then said it could reopen the strait within seven days. Oil surged and then pulled back, and $BTC has been bouncing up and down with it. With geopolitics stacking on top of rate pressure, don’t rush to bottom-pick on the short term—wait for stabilization signals.
But if tensions in the Middle East ease, risk appetite may return faster than you’d think—don’t cut losses in panic.
