According to CNBC, Akamai Technologies jumped more than 21% in premarket trading after announcing a seven-year power contract and an $11.6 billion deal with Anthropic on Thursday. Akamai also issued a warrant giving Anthropic the right to buy up to roughly 5% of the company's shares at an exercise price of $111.33 each. Scholastic fell more than 10% after posting a fiscal first-quarter loss of $3.63 per share, wider than the $2.52 per share loss a year earlier, while revenue declined 4% to $216.8 million. Synopsys rose more than 3% after HSBC upgraded the stock to buy from hold, with Frank Lee saying the company's new business model will make it a high-growth AI beneficiary. Nike slipped nearly 2% after Bank of America downgraded the stock to underperform from neutral and said it expects sales declines from the second quarter through the rest of fiscal 2027. Costco Wholesale was slightly lower even after reporting adjusted earnings of $6.60 per share on revenue of $95.72 billion, topping LSEG estimates for $6.53 per share on revenue of $94.86 billion.
