1. Cold wallet: If long-term idle holdings exceed 30% of net assets, you must move them to a hardware wallet/iPhone, with the goal of never connecting to the internet.
2. Split across exchanges: For spot/perpetual contracts for short-term trading, keep funds on top-tier platforms. Meanwhile, spread altcoins/on-chain holdings across two or three different CEX/DEXs.
3. Hot wallet: On CEX/DEX, only keep the amount you will actually use in the current month; any excess should be transferred out the same day.

Even when choosing a hardware wallet, make sure to do proper due diligence. The Coldcard firmware vulnerability in July led to nearly $1.2 billion being stolen.
The simplest approach: get an unused iPhone, download OKX Wallet/Metamask, don’t install any other apps. After setting up the wallet, immediately disconnect from the network. Only reconnect when you need to use it.
