Solana activates the Alpenglow upgrade on testnet, aiming for ultra-fast transaction confirmation times of 150 milliseconds.

Officially moving away from the old TowerBFT mechanism, Solana’s testnet switches to using the Votor mechanism. This upgrade enables validators to cast votes directly to one another to complete blocks quickly.

If successful, finality time will drop from 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds—85 times faster. Execution of smart contracts, the SVM, and network fees remain unchanged.

This speed will bring Solana closer to the latency of centralized financial systems, helping DEX trading, payments, and on-chain financial applications respond almost instantly.

Note that the new 150ms figure is only a design target currently being tested on testnet; the timeline for official mainnet deployment has not yet been announced.

This article is for news updates and entertainment only, not investment advice. If later Solana’s 150ms speed helps you take profits super fast, congratulations—if you accidentally pressed the wrong command because the network was too fast, then that’s entirely because your hands were faster than your brain.
