Block also contributed Bitcoin Lightning payment capabilities to x402, with the goal of providing infrastructure for payments and transfers between individuals, enterprises, and AI Agents. Block stated that Lightning is suitable for real-time, low-cost, and high-frequency payment scenarios, and can be used to support Agentic Commerce.
