#Federal Reserve Issues New Stablecoin Rules

The Federal Reserve, under the GENIUS Act, has proposed a new framework for stablecoin issuers, with limits on the range of eligible reserve assets and standardized capital requirements.

These standards truly constrain the issuer’s balance sheet, not <GENIUS> itself—it’s more like a topic anchor rather than a directly regulated target. Stablecoin supply is already on the order of $312.7 billion. The larger the scale, the more capital and reserve definitions determine who can stay and who will need to add funds. No proposal details or effective dates have been disclosed; the only thing that can be confirmed right now is the direction.
