One of the most impressive sales from FTX’s bankruptcy recovery has returned to the spotlight.
In 2022, Alameda Research invested US$200 thousand in Anysphere, the startup behind Cursor, and received approximately 5% of the company.
After the collapse of FTX, the bankruptcy estate sold this stake in April 2023.

💰 Sale Price: US$200 thousand
Three years later, the story changed completely.
SpaceX▸ $SPCXB ▸ completed in August 2026 the acquisition of Cursor, in a deal with an implied value of approximately US$60 billion.
If those 5% were considered against that value:
US$200 THOUSAND → ~US$3 BILLION
That represents approximately:

🔥 15,000X
The value ended up going to whoever acquired the stake during the liquidation, not to FTX’s bankrupt estate.
The episode also reignites an important discussion: when trying to quickly turn illiquid assets into cash to pay creditors, a bankruptcy estate may end up giving up an enormous future appreciation.
And this was not just another crypto asset.
It was a stake in an AI startup that was ultimately bought by SpaceX.
