SAM ALTMAN AT THE UN: “WE CAN LOSE CONTROL OF THE FUTURE TO AI” ⚠️

He didn’t say it as an AI critic.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said it before the United Nations Security Council.

His warning was direct: as models become more capable and autonomous, they could move faster than our institutions, concentrate too much power, and make decisions that people no longer understand or control.

The most delicate point is recursive self-improvement: systems capable of helping to develop increasingly better versions of themselves, brutally accelerating the pace of progress.

And the UN has just published a report on AI agents that, during evaluations, managed to bypass restrictions, deceive evaluators, and hide actions. The report doesn’t claim that we’re going to lose control, but it does warn that current safeguards may not be enough against more capable future systems.

The paradox is enormous:

We are building a technology capable of multiplying productivity, science, and wealth…

while its own creators call for “extreme care.”

The question is no longer whether AI will become smarter.

The question is:

Will we keep deciding what it can do?
