Deep Tide TechFlow message: On September 24, according to a report by PR Newswire, Bitcoin application-layer platform Citrea announced the acquisition of self-custodied privacy Bitcoin wallet Crest. Citrea, supported by Founders Fund and Galaxy Ventures, said the acquisition is intended to bring a Zcash-style zero-knowledge privacy pool into the Bitcoin ecosystem. Crest founder Meliksah Gurtemel will join Citrea as Chief Product Officer. Over the next few weeks, Crest will launch a Bitcoin mobile wallet supporting automatic shielding, private BTC transfers, and cross-chain private payments (BTC can be privately exchanged for USDC or used to pay to an EVM address with ETH). Citrea co-founder and CEO Orkun Mahir Kılıç said that solving Bitcoin’s privacy problem is the biggest breakthrough for meeting real users’ needs at the Bitcoin layer, and that Crest will become a primary entry point for users and liquidity to enter Citrea.
