Visa and Reap have continued to push the coverage of stablecoin cards further outward this time.
According to Wu, Visa and Payward’s payment company Reap have expanded their cooperation. The stablecoin-linked Visa credit card program will be extended to more than 100 markets worldwide, covering Asia, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Reap will provide card issuing, clearing, compliance, and operational infrastructure, and it has already used stablecoins directly for settlement of payment obligations with Visa in the Asia-Pacific region.
In terms of the facts, this shows that stablecoins are moving even deeper into real payment and card-issuing networks. In terms of the market, the benefit narrative is more tilted toward payment infrastructure, stablecoin settlement, and exchange-related financial services, rather than a single-token catalyst. Another point to note is that Visa has publicly mentioned that its current global stablecoin settlement volume is about $20 billion in annualized terms, up 15-fold year-over-year, and that there are already more than 160 stablecoin card programs worldwide. Are you more interested in the expansion of payment infrastructure, or in the continued growth of stablecoin settlement volumes?
