【UK big banks have started moving “deposits” onto the blockchain! Do banks also need to get on-chain?🔥】

Once again, the UK has seen another development worth paying attention to.
Large British banks such as Barclays, Lloyds Bank, and NatWest have already completed cross-bank transactions using “tokenized deposits.”
What are tokenized deposits?
Simply put, it means converting your pound sterling deposits in a bank account into digital receipts on the blockchain.
They’re different from stablecoins like USDT and USDC. The money is still within the banking system—fundamentally it’s still a bank deposit—but it’s represented in a form that’s more suitable for on-chain transactions.
This test also used a particularly interesting feature: programmable payments.
For example, when buying a house, you can first lock the funds, and once the transaction is completed, the system automatically releases the money to the other party.
What does this mean?
Previously, bank transfers solved the problem of “sending money from account A to account B.” Tokenized deposits aim to solve something else—making the money itself capable of executing automatically according to the terms of the transaction.
And the biggest breakthrough this time is that, between different banks, they have already begun testing transferring funds to each other.
📌 So what’s truly worth关注 isn’t just that UK banks are “starting to use blockchain,” but that traditional finance is gradually moving financial assets like deposits, payments, and bonds onto the chain.
More importantly, the participating banks plan to issue three digital bonds in 2027, and use tokenized deposits for trading and settlement.
In other words, the real path for RWA to take off may not be Crypto directly replacing banks, but banks starting to move financial assets onto the blockchain step by step.
