I went back to April 2025, because BTC was almost exactly where we are now.

And the comparison is interesting.

APRIL 2025: ~$84.9K → $94K

SEPTEMBER 2026: ~$84K → Decision point

Then: institutional buying was accelerating.

Now: institutional buying is much larger — but macro pressure is stronger too.

📊 THEN | APRIL 2025

BTC opened April 18 around $84,947.

It didn't look particularly exciting at the time. Macro uncertainty was still hanging over the market.

Then the money started coming in.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbed about $2.65B between April 18–24.

BTC followed:

$84.9K → $87.5K → $93.4K → $94K

That's roughly +10.6% in one week.

$85K BASE → ETF INFLOWS → BREAKOUT → $94K

📍 NOW | SEPTEMBER 2026

Fast-forward to today and BTC is back around $84K after briefly pushing above $87K.

But look underneath the price.

Spot ETFs took in:

+$999M — Sept 21

+$714.7M — Sept 22

Even after BTC retreated, Sept. 23 remained slightly positive at about +$32M.

And here's the number I find most interesting:

Cumulative ETF inflows

April 2025: ~$38.1B

Now: ~$56.9B

That's a considerably larger institutional footprint behind Bitcoin today.

🔀 WHAT I'M WATCHING FROM HERE

🟢 Bull side

$82–84K holds

→ ETF demand remains strong

$87K reclaimed

$90K

$94K+ retest

That would start looking surprisingly similar to April 2025.

🔴 Bear side

$84K breaks

→ ETF inflows continue cooling/reverse

→ yields + macro pressure dominate

$82K

$80K test

💭 My read

I'm not assuming BTC rallies simply because it did the last time it traded here.

But I do think today's $84K is different from 2025's $84K.

Institutional infrastructure is deeper, ETF capital is larger, and recent demand has been substantial. At the same time, BTC is increasingly tied into the same rates, liquidity and risk decisions affecting traditional markets. Recent reporting also notes BTC's stronger correlation with tech/risk assets.

So for me, $87K is the gate — but $82–84K is the more important area.

If BTC can absorb selling there while ETF money keeps coming in, I'd expect another serious attempt at $87K and potentially the $90–94K zone.

If institutional flows disappear, the historical comparison loses much of its strength.

Same price. Bigger institutional backing.

But also a bigger macro battle.

The next few candles should tell us which one wins.
