According to CoinDesk, StarkWare said that a week-long AI-assisted code optimization competition will prepare an estimate of the GPU computing cost needed to place an anti-quantum Bitcoin exchange transaction, reducing it from about $320 to $66. The core search speed is increased from about 146 million hashes per second to about 881 million. The proposal uses a hashing mechanism to protect BTC that meets the criteria, and could serve as a potential emergency diversion under quantum attacks without upgrading the Bitcoin network. However, the $66 figure is still only a test estimate and has not been validated through another transaction actually confirmed on-chain. In addition, this proposal cannot protect BTC whose public keys have already been exposed.
