According to Jin10, Israel's Channel 12 reported that U.S. negotiators rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz during indirect talks held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, telling Tehran that Iran does not control the waterway and questioning its authority to make the proposal. The channel also said U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in one room, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was in another, with Qatari mediators relaying messages between the two sides. Citing people familiar with the matter, Channel 12 added that more indirect talks could be held before the General Assembly closes, but mediators are waiting for U.S. President Donald Trump to decide whether to continue the process or take another path.
