Japanese chip stocks moved higher across the board today. SoftBank Group rose more than 6%, Ibiden rose 14%, and Kioxia rose more than 3%. The three segments were swept up by capital together on the same day.

Take it apart and look: all three are positioned at different points in the industrial chain. SoftBank holds ARM architecture licensing, and is also an investment platform for major technology stocks; what’s rising is the expectation at the capital and IP level. Ibiden makes high-end chip packaging substrates, and the demand for advanced packaging in AI servers directly drives orders. Kioxia is a NAND flash memory leader; what’s rising is the logic of a recovery in the memory cycle.

All rallying on the same day looks lively, but the underlying scale and driving logic are far from the same. SoftBank is a platform-type giant; Ibiden is stuck in a key packaging link; and Kioxia is focused on storage prices. Investor sentiment is one thing, but whether each company’s fundamentals can keep up is another matter.#ONDO: $ONDO
