$BCH Suddenly surges 28%, CME extends life support for old coins

This wave for BCH is indeed strong. After CME announced it would list BCH futures on October 19, the price jumped from around $270 to $328 in just over an hour—at one point up more than 30% in 24 hours. And this wasn’t a “BTC-driven” rally—back then, BTC was actually hovering around $86,000.

Spot trading volume immediately expanded to about $1.38 billion, and derivatives volume even surged to $2.35 billion. OI (open interest) also rose 38.7% to $588 million. In other words, this rally wasn’t just spot buying—leveraged capital came in together.

I think the market isn’t really trading the idea that “CME added one more contract.” What it’s really betting on is that BCH suddenly gained an official channel for institutions to go long, short, and hedge via futures. Then, combined with Grayscale’s BCH ETF moves, old BCH suddenly has a bit more “institutional asset” flavor again.

But there’s also a catch: even before the futures launch, the price has already risen 30%. Whether this move can continue depends on whether OI keeps rising and whether spot trading volume keeps up. If only leverage keeps piling in, this big bullish candle for BCH can turn into a lesson for longs at any time.
