Ítalo Atencio, president of the National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Service Stores (ANSA), said that this Friday, he will open a pharmacy chain in Playa Grande and that during the first week of December, he will open a supermarket in Maiquetía, La Guaira state.
The president of the National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Service Stores (ANSA), Ítalo Atencio, said that there are 6 types of consumers and that the last one is the solidarity buyer/donor, which cuts across the other 5 customer types.
Likewise, he emphasized that most Venezuelans get paid weekly, but they also have other extra activities through which they sometimes receive income on a daily basis.
He stated that Venezuelans use 60% of their income to buy food, and the rest of what they earn is spent on other things, such as leisure.
Ítalo Atencio added that in the country there are more product brands and more supermarkets, which «forces the necessary competition and promotion,» leading Venezuelans to decide where to shop, what price to pay, and under what customer experience they will buy.
He said that Venezuelans go to the supermarket 2, 3, and even 4 times a week: «they make an initial purchase and the other 2 or 3 times are for restocking».
He also said that Venezuelans spend 55 minutes at a time shopping at supermarkets, and stressed that 80% of that time is spent walking around the store.
The union representative said on Venevisión that supermarkets have become a meeting point for Venezuelans, where they interact with the staff who work in the business and make their purchases.
He pointed out that the country’s supply index stands at 98%, and added that Venezuelans want stable prices and a Christmas season with all products available.
Similarly, he highlighted that Christmas ham is guaranteed and added that there is a preliminary estimate of 3,000 tons of the product to be consumed in supermarkets during the December season.
It is important to emphasize that, up to this point, 91 supermarkets have been opened across Venezuela so far this year.
