[You think this round of ZEC is “fundamentals improving,” but actually it’s capital looking for an exit”]

Last week you probably heard talk like this: “ZEC has a Europe ETP now, so the fundamentals are different.” Honestly, when I hear that kind of judgment, I just want to laugh.

The most common mistake retail investors make is treating “someone is running with a narrative” as “the logic holds.” This week ZEC is up 17%. Go check the timeline—you’ll see that CoinDesk’s line about “BTC falling below 86k, and funds rotating into BCH and ZEC” was the real time marker. Once BTC softens, the rotating capital looks for smaller-cap coins—and ZEC just happened to get selected.

A Europe ETP? The physical-backed ETF from 21Shares? Sounds impressive, but let me ask one thing: can the spot demand in Europe alone really support a 17% week-over-week surge? I’ve seen the ICO bubble back in 2017 countless times. Every time it’s the same story: “big institutions are coming in.” And what happened? Retail believed it, got in—while the institutions left early.

The really interesting part is the listing of CME futures. On the day BCH jumped 28%, ZEC followed and caught the afterglow. What do futures imply? It means someone can short without holding the spot. That also implies the downward pressure from the eventual selloff might not have shown up yet.

From the chart, ZEC is down 52.6% from its ATH. That does line up with an area where long-term capital has been paying attention. The consolidation range of 1480 to 1692 hasn’t been broken yet, and trading volume has clearly expanded this week. If volume rises but the range doesn’t break, it’s either building energy—or someone is using the momentum to quietly make an exit.

Next week I’m watching two things: whether BTC can hold above 86k, and how ZEC behaves in front of the 1692 resistance level. The sentiment index is 71—greed, basically. But this kind of greed is being provided by BTC, not “earned” by ZEC itself.

To be honest, my view hasn’t changed this week. Back in 2017, I got cut because I also went in on “fundamentals.” Now when I look at ZEC, it’s the same: I’m watching the money’s mood—fundamentals are just an excuse.

So what’s your mindset right now? Are you brave enough to chase this ZEC move? Or are you like me—understood the logic, but still can’t help feeling itchy?
