Zcash’s upcoming NU7 upgrade includes a proposed change that would disable v4 transactions, effectively preventing further spending of $ZEC remaining in the old Sprout pool.
Sprout was deprecated years ago, deposits are already disabled, and the pool currently holds less than 23,000 $ZEC, representing under 0.1% of transaction volume.
So if you still have ZEC sitting in an old Sprout-based wallet, it’s worth checking your wallet setup and migration options before NU7 activation.
One important clarification: the official NU7 materials say the disposition of remaining Sprout funds has not been specified. The proposal is to disable v4 transactions, not explicitly “burn” those coins.
