BTC breaks through $87,000! Behind the eight-month high in 8 months, who’s buying?
Bitcoin has climbed another step.
From September 22 to 23, BTC briefly pushed above $870,000, setting a new high in about eight months. On September 21, intraday highs touched around $87,397. In just six trading days, BTC surged from roughly $74.9k, with a gain of nearly 17%.
But what’s truly worth watching about this rally may not be the “$87k” number.
Instead, it’s that capital has begun flowing back into the BTC spot market.
On September 21, did US spot Bitcoin ETFs really record a one-day net inflow of $99.895 billion?
Hold on—here we need to correct the unit:
It’s $998.95 million, nearly $1 billion.
This is the largest single-day net inflow since October 2025.
Of which:
BlackRock IBIT: about $381 million
ARKB: about $289 million
Fidelity FBTC: about $239 million
Just the top three ETFs absorbed more than $900 million in capital.
What does that mean?
In the past, BTC rallies were often accompanied by leverage, sentiment, and short-term capital-driven momentum.
But this time, ETF spot inflows are becoming an important incremental factor.
And on top of that, Strategy continued to add 950 BTC this week—institutional allocation actions toward BTC are still ongoing.
So what the market should be watching right now is:
Can BTC turn this “short-term breakout” into “sustained spot inflow of capital”?
If ETFs continue to maintain net inflows and leverage in the market doesn’t spiral out of control, then the focus of this rally won’t be just hitting new price highs. It will be:
The channel for traditional capital to enter BTC is becoming increasingly important.
Of course, a nearly 17% jump over just six days also means volatility is clearly expanding.
So next, rather than fixating on a single price figure, I’d rather look at three indicators:
👉 ETF fund flows
👉 Spot trading volume
👉 Whether leverage capital is getting overheated
A price breakout is only the first step.
What ultimately determines the quality of a rally is whether there is continued follow-through—real “cash” on the line.
