【BitMEX officially shuts down! Why did a long-standing exchange of 11 years end up here?】

Yet another era in the crypto world has come to an end.

BitMEX has officially stopped trading, deposits, and order opening services.

This long-standing exchange, founded in 2014, was once one of the “pioneers” in the crypto derivatives market. In particular, the perpetual contracts it helped popularize have now become one of the most mainstream trading products in the Crypto market.

But now, BitMEX has still closed.

The official reason given is that after a strategic review, it decided to end its exchange business—not because of hacker attacks or a sudden liquidity crisis.

However, one important point:

When BitMEX stops trading, it does not mean users’ assets are frozen.

Users can still log in and withdraw funds. But trading services have been discontinued. For verified account balances left on the platform, a monthly account fee will still be charged going forward.

The question is: Why did an exchange that once helped define Crypto perpetual contracts ultimately exit anyway?

Put simply, the crypto derivatives market has changed completely now.

Perpetual contracts are still here—and trading volumes are growing—but competition has also become much fiercer. Products BitMEX once created have become industry standard, and the real opportunities to make money no longer belong exclusively to the earliest players.

📌 So what’s worth paying attention to when BitMEX closes is not just “an exchange is gone,” but that the crypto trading market is entering a new competitive phase.

Products will remain, but the platform that once defined that product may not necessarily stay forever.
