💥 In the TGA: a trillion dollars—will it be moved??!

The U.S. Treasury is exploring a new proposal: to periodically inject some of the cash in the Treasury General Account (TGA) into the private repurchase market, rather than keeping it entirely parked at the Federal Reserve 🏦

At this week’s New York Fed annual Treasury bond meeting, several market participants said they support the idea. The TGA size is slightly under $1 trillion; it’s the Treasury’s everyday cash account. This was mentioned in May as well, and now the discussion is shifting toward the specific implementation 👀

If it truly comes to fruition, it would add a direct channel from Treasury cash flow into the money market. Would the short-term funding markets gain one more stable tool—or would it introduce new variables? 🤔

What the market cares about most: Is the operation predictable? Is the schedule clear? Could it affect expectations for liquidity?

For the crypto space, is this potential fresh liquidity—or just a minor macro-side story? Will the short-term funding landscape really change overnight?
