WeChat said it is continuing to crack down on accounts involved in pyramid schemes, fraud, and other illegal activities. According to Foresight News, these schemes often use claims about ethnic asset recovery, national policies, state projects, blockchain virtual coins, or stablecoins to lure users into group chats and recruit others.

The accounts then use unknown links to steal WeChat account passwords,诱导 users to download fraudulent apps, or require participation in sign-ins, meetings, and courses to carry out scams. WeChat said it will take tiered enforcement measures based on the severity of the violation, including banning group functions, restricting some features, and suspending accounts.

WeChat also warned users to be cautious of projects promising low investment and high returns or so-called official benefits. It said users should be especially alert to investment projects that claim to be secret state projects or to have official backing while demanding confidentiality and refusing public disclosure, as well as projects promoted under blockchain virtual coin labels that lack technical substance and ecosystem applications.
