Put the application on the cloud—who decides where the data is stored?
Recently, DFINITY introduced a direction for sovereign cloud. On its Open Cloud website, the options it presents are: users choose the node operator, the deployment location, and the hardware category, and then run it by combining those selections via the Internet Computer protocol.
What I’m more interested in is whether the ability to choose can translate into real deployment details: data residency requirements, node distribution, and the recovery approach after a failure are more concrete than the three words “sovereign cloud.” The website is still accepting early access applications; you can’t take the product introduction as something that’s already widely adopted.
If you’re hosting your own application, would you rather first see the deployment location information or the failure recovery documentation?
