Ethereum Market In-Depth Analysis: The Tug-of-War Between Record ETF Inflows and Bankruptcy Liquidation Pressure

1. Price Trend Analysis

As of the early hours of September 23 (Beijing time), the spot price of Ethereum is $2,782. Over the past few hours, it has shown a mild upward trend. From the hourly K-line, ETH started around $2,753, pulled back briefly to consolidate, and then moved higher again. It recently reached a high of $2,789. Overall, it has been oscillating upward within the range of $2,750 to $2,790.

The key factor driving Ethereum’s recent performance is the record inflow of spot ETF capital. On September 21, Ethereum spot ETFs recorded a net inflow of $270 million, setting a historical high. This figure directly reflects strong demand from institutional investors for Ethereum and provides solid support for the price.

At the same time, whales’ continued buying behavior further tightens market supply. Through OTC block trades and cross-asset swap channels, large investors continuously accumulate ETH and put it into staking, effectively reducing the available supply in circulation. In addition, newly launched physical-backed ETP products and perpetual futures in Europe and emerging markets have expanded access for global institutional investors.

2. Technical Indicator Interpretation

Regarding the moving average system, the 7-hour moving average is $2,762, the 25-hour moving average is $2,750, and the 99-hour moving average is $2,681—also indicating a bullish alignment. Price is trading above all major moving averages, suggesting the short-term trend is bullish.

The MACD indicator is positive. The fast line is 9.37, the slow line is 7.80, and the histogram has expanded to 1.57, indicating that bullish momentum is accelerating. Compared with the previous cycle, the MACD histogram has turned from below zero to positive and continues to expand—an unmistakable signal of an upward push.

For RSI, the 6-period RSI is 81.86, already entering the overbought zone. The 12-period RSI is 70.31, and the 24-period RSI is 64.66. The sharp rise in short-term RSI reflects strong buying pressure, but it also suggests the possibility of a technical pullback.

For the Bollinger Bands, the upper band is $2,774. Price has broken above the upper band, indicating the current trend is stronger than the recent average. The ATR indicator is 21.26, showing volatility remains at a moderate level. The Williams indicator is -10.87, which is also in the overbought region. KDJ’s J value reaches 86.60, with ample short-term momentum.

It is worth noting that the combined indicator signals currently point to bears, with a win rate of about 70.59%. This diverges somewhat from the price action, suggesting investors should be alert to the risk of a short-term pullback.

3. Market Sentiment Analysis

The Ethereum market is currently facing an intense contest between bulls and bears. On the positive side, record ETF inflows and whales’ continued accumulation inject strong confidence into the market. Binance’s strategic investment in Circle and the SEC’s exemption policy for tokenized stocks both improve the overall macro environment for the crypto market.

However, risks should not be ignored. The biggest short-term threat comes from a bankrupt liquidation institution that is about to sell 23,639 ETH. These large sell orders will create clear resistance in the spot market, potentially suppressing upward price movement. In addition, around the $2,500 level, there are over $118 million worth of long-leveraged positions. If price unexpectedly falls into that area, it could trigger cascading liquidations.

From the market structure perspective, perpetual contract trading volume is highly concentrated, and combined with regulatory scrutiny related to prediction markets, short-term volatility may remain elevated. Investors are advised to monitor both the progress of the bankrupt liquidation closely and the stability of the $2,500 support level, while keeping an eye on overall medium- to long-term fundamentals that remain favorable.
