đ¨ BITCOINâS LIGHTNING NETWORK JUST GOT A QUANTUM SHIELD
Researchers at East Texas A&M University have developed PQLN, a proposed defense designed to protect Lightning payments against future quantum attacks.
The threat is simple:
Attackers could record encrypted payments today and potentially decrypt them once powerful quantum computers arrive.
PQLN aims to tackle that risk without modifying Bitcoin itself.
It can operate alongside existing Lightning nodes across a network of roughly 33,000 channels holding about 3,750 BTC.
But thereâs a trade-off:
The protection reportedly requires around 10x more bandwidth.
And the clock is already ticking.
NIST has set a roadmap away from elliptic-curve cryptography, with restrictions on vulnerable public-key cryptography planned beyond 2035.
Bitcoin doesnât have to wait for quantum computers to arrive.
The race to make its infrastructure quantum-resistant may already be underway.
