U.S. President Donald Trump said at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that all future U.S. government documents will refer to artificial intelligence as "superintelligence." According to ChainCatcher, Trump said the U.S. strongly opposes any effort to create a global mechanism to restrict AI and argued that the word "artificial" makes intelligence sound fake.

Trump said the government will begin using the term "superintelligence" because it is more accurate, adding that the U.S. is already far ahead of other countries in the field. He also said he had previously launched a social media poll proposing that AI be renamed "superintelligence," "very high intelligence," or "supreme intelligence."

On regulation, Trump said the U.S. Department of Justice and other law enforcement agencies would manage related risks if necessary, while stressing that the government would not stifle the development of a technology he said could eventually exceed the scale of the Industrial Revolution. United Nations Secretary-General Guterres also called on world leaders the same day to strengthen AI regulation.
