According to a public financial disclosure filing, U.S. President Donald Trump bought up to $50,000 of SpaceX shares in July and sold up to $15,000 of shares. The filing, signed by Trump on September 8, said he bought SpaceX shares worth between $15,001 and $50,000 on July 10 and sold shares worth between $1,001 and $15,000 on July 17.

The latest trades created a new financial link between Trump and Elon Musk's rocket company, while his administration was making decisions that could affect the company's outlook. SpaceX priced its June 12 IPO, which set a U.S. record, at a valuation of $1.77 trillion. Reports had previously said Trump bought SpaceX shares in June.

Between July 10 and July 17, SpaceX shares fell 15%. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle had previously said the president's portfolio is independently managed by a third-party financial institution and mirrors the composition of "recognized indexes, such as the Charles Schwab 1000 Index."

The SpaceX share purchases and sales were part of more than 1,000 trades Trump made in July. The U.S. Office of Government Ethics, which collects ethics disclosure information for U.S. officials, posted the forms on its website on Tuesday.
