According to RTHK, the Hong Kong Economic Times (HKET) and JPX official data, Asian index futures traded firmer in the overnight session after a record close on the Nasdaq, a roughly 2% gain in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index and AMD's market value topping $1 trillion, with Micron rising 5%.
Nikkei 225 futures ran higher in Osaka Exchange holiday-mode night trading, with Tokyo's cash market shut Sept. 21-23 for the Autumnal Equinox period and due to reopen Thursday. The December Nikkei 225 futures contract settled the night session at 67,060, up 1,960 points.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index futures ended the after-hours session at 25,133, up 78 points, or about 0.32%, with the Hang Seng China Enterprises-linked mainland gauge up 0.3% at 5,846. In ADR trade converted to Hong Kong dollars, Tencent's ADR was 0.58% above its local close at HK$454.21 and HSBC's ADR added 0.04% at HK$159.36, while Alibaba's U.S.-listed shares slipped 0.67% to an equivalent HK$114.03 and Meituan's ADR eased 0.24% to HK$73.02.
Taiwan's TAIEX futures extended gains in the night session, with the near-month contract closing at 48,497, up 272 points, or 0.56%, after opening at 48,186 and trading between 47,876 and 48,647 on volume of 31,121 lots.
