Six major Canadian banks are tokenizing Canadian dollar deposits, and on the same day, the chair of the CFTC said the market should prepare for “large-scale tokenization.”

Ten years ago, when I was just writing code, banks weren’t even willing to open up an API. Now they’re doing it themselves—changing ledgers.

But don’t get it mixed up: this is an internal settlement upgrade by the banks, and it’s totally different from “BTC on-chain.” They don’t want decentralization—they want faster clearing. Same direction, completely different purpose.

Do you think this traditional banking path will eventually converge with public chains, or will they just each go their own way?
