Union leaders representing a quarter of full-time workers at BHP's Escondida copper mine in Chile called on members to reject the company's final wage offer, increasing the risk of a strike at the world's largest copper mine. According to Sina Finance, the union said the proposal failed to meet demands and required workers to perform multiple tasks. The offer will be presented to members at meetings this week, with voting set for September 28 to 30. Union president Alexis Barrera said in a video that the leadership unanimously rejected the final proposal and urged members to vote for a strike. Earlier on Tuesday, the company said its final offer included higher pay, allowances and benefits, as well as changes to operating practices and a clause ending negotiations. Under Chile's collective bargaining rules, the company can request a five-day mediation period before any strike begins.
