Hi everyone and welcome to our new Crypto 101 session!
When you look into a new cryptocurrency project, you often hear experts say: "Have you read the whitepaper?" For a beginner, it often feels like an unpleasant chore: a 50-page document packed with mathematical formulas, technical terms, and incomprehensible charts written by engineers.
Yet it's the official identity card of a project. It's the moral contract between the creators and the community.
Let’s learn to decode it together, without jargon and without beating around the bush.
1. What exactly is a Whitepaper?
A whitepaper (or “livre blanc”) is simply the blueprint of a cryptocurrency or a blockchain project.
Before building a house, the architect draws up the plans, explains why you use certain materials, how the building will stand, and what it’s going to be used for. In crypto, it’s the same:
The problem: What concrete real-world or finance issue is the project trying to solve?
The solution: What unique technology or method does the team propose to solve this problem?
2. The beginner’s trap: Buying based on a great marketing promise
The classic beginner trap is stopping at a website’s homepage, a flashy logo, or a promotional video on social media that promises to “revolutionize the world.”
The reality on the ground: marketing is there to sell the dream. The whitepaper, on the other hand, must prove that the project has real technical and economic substance.
If a project doesn’t have a clear whitepaper, or if the document is full of empty sentences without logical technical explanations, run away: it’s usually a sign of a scam or a project with no meaning.
3. The 3 questions to ask when you skim a Whitepaper
You don’t need to be an IT genius to read a white paper. By focusing on these three points, you’ll already be among the 10% most savvy investors:
What is the token for? Does it have a real use within the project’s ecosystem, or is it just there to fuel speculation?
Who’s behind it? Is the team transparent, with verifiable profiles—or are the creators hiding behind fake names?
How is the distribution handled? How many tokens are reserved for the team, for early investors, and for the general public? (Watch out for projects where the team holds 90% of the shares).
A smart investor doesn’t bet their money on luck—they bet on understanding. Reading (or at least skimming intelligently) a project’s whitepaper is moving from being a casino player to a real player in your financial freedom.
👇 Let’s be honest with each other:
Have you taken the time to read a cryptocurrency’s whitepaper before investing, or have you already been fooled by a pretty marketing promise with no substance?
