With a few thousand in principal, is there really no chance?
A coin friend had 3,000 U in hand and was always thinking about doubling it. He bought in with 500 and when it rose 10% he felt the profit was too small; when it fell 8% he thought it had already dropped that much and it definitely couldn’t keep falling—so he added the rest of the money. Later he changed his way of thinking. He didn’t treat the 3,000 U as his cost basis. Instead, he treated it as his “survival allowance” in the market. The maximum amount he would risk in any one trade was fixed in advance. If he got it wrong, he would cut and withdraw—not because he was down by a few dozen U and then started thinking the next trade had to make it back. He only gradually increased his participation once the market actually moved the way he expected. Most importantly, he started separating profits from principal. For example, if he made 500 during a segment of the trend, he wouldn’t immediately put that 500 together with the principal to keep going all-in. He would first take out part of it. Even if his judgment was wrong, it would only mean he earned a bit less—not that he would give back everything from before.
This change looks especially slow. But after a few months, he himself discovered a problem: earlier, his account often swung from 3,000 up to 5,000 and then back down to 2,000. Later, the peak rose only a bit more slowly, but big pullbacks rarely happened again. The advantage of small capital isn’t that you can gamble freely. It’s that after you make a mistake, you still have a chance to start over. Losing a few thousand at once might disappear quickly. But if you split it into many attempts—paying for only one judgment each time—you end up having enough opportunities to wait for the real行情 that belongs to you.
So don’t always ask how to turn things around with a few thousand U. First ask yourself: if you make three consecutive mistakes, can you still continue?
