STOCKS | Alibaba Just Unveiled Its Biggest AI Push Yet — Shares Jump 5%
Alibaba is making a much bigger move into the AI infrastructure race.
The company announced today that it plans to train a next-generation AI model with:
5–10 TRILLION parameters
For comparison, its current flagship Qwen 3.8 Max has about 2.4 trillion.
But the bigger stock-market story may be the hardware.
Alibaba also unveiled its new Zhenwu V900 AI chip, which the company says delivers roughly 3× the performance of its previous generation.
And Alibaba isn’t stopping at chips.
Alibaba Cloud now wants to expand its global data-center capacity to more than 20 GW by 2032.
The market reacted immediately:
Alibaba’s Hong Kong shares jumped as much as 5.1% today, reaching a one-month high.
Why does this matter?
Alibaba is no longer positioning itself as simply a cloud company using third-party AI hardware.
It’s increasingly building the entire stack:
AI models → Qwen
AI chips → Zhenwu
Cloud → Alibaba Cloud
Data centers → 20+ GW target
And that creates an interesting competitive angle for $NVDA .
U.S. restrictions on advanced Nvidia chips are pushing Chinese companies to develop increasingly capable domestic alternatives.
Stocks to watch:
$BABA • $NVDA • $AMD
The bigger question:
Is China building a parallel AI infrastructure ecosystem that could eventually operate without Nvidia at its center?
