At Binance Square, everyone is pushing the slogan “PENGU is rising,” and it climbed 13% in a day. I checked the on-chain data—almost nobody is really moving it.
This run does have real money flowing: in the past 24 hours, trading volume is nearly $394 million. The price went from 0.008, alternating bearish and bullish pressure while grinding up to 0.0091—not something that was instantly “stabbed in” with a single spike. The market cap is $571 million, and over 7 days it’s up 28%.
But the story doesn’t hold up under closer scrutiny.
On September 22, Binance added trading pairs for ARB and ENA, and it didn’t mention PENGU at all. The posts saying “Binance has just listed PENGU again” are just something people imagined themselves.
And don’t talk about an airdrop either—PENGU already had an earlier round. This isn’t a new round of “throwing money” at people.
On-chain it’s even quieter: the Solana mainnet DEX pool’s trading volume is only a few million dollars. Compared with the overall market’s several-hundred-million-dollar trading volume, it’s not even a drop in the bucket—money is rotating around centralized exchanges, and nobody is really taking it on-chain.
On the derivatives side, things are still restrained: OKX funding rate is 0.005%, and open interest is $8.1 million. That doesn’t look crowded, suggesting it hasn’t reached the stage of a full-on scramble.
Discussion volume is definitely exploding—8,984 predictions in 48 hours, triple the 5-day average of 2,949. But this time, it was price first, then posts followed and started flooding in. It wasn’t a new piece of news driving the price.
Triple the discussion volume sounds scary, but in the face of the actual on-chain “buyback” volume, it doesn’t mean much. For the short term, I’m leaning bearish on my side—I won’t chase this move. Only if the trading volume can withstand the sell pressure, funding rates don’t keep spiking wildly, and the price truly holds the gains from this rally—then it would indicate that someone is genuinely taking the position, not just riding the emotional hype.
