๐Ÿšจ BREAKING: Agora Gets Preliminary OCC Approval for National Trust Bank ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿช™
The stablecoin industry just reached another important milestone.
Agora has received preliminary conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Agora National Trust Bank.
But why does this matter for crypto? ๐Ÿ‘‡
๐Ÿ”น Stablecoins + regulated banking
Agora says the proposed bank would bring its stablecoin, custody and transaction infrastructure under direct federal supervision if final approval is granted.
๐Ÿ”น AUSD could become more integrated
Agora is the issuer of AUSD, its U.S.-dollar stablecoin. The company says the new structure is intended to bring more of its stablecoin infrastructure under one federally supervised entity.
๐Ÿ”น The OCC is opening the door to crypto infrastructure
Agora isn't alone. The OCC's September records also show national trust bank actions involving Catena and Bastion, highlighting growing activity around federally supervised digital-asset financial infrastructure.
โš ๏ธ Important: This is NOT final approval yet.
Agora has received preliminary conditional approval. The company still has to satisfy the OCC's remaining requirements before the bank can receive final authorization to begin operations.
๐Ÿ”ฅ The bigger story:
Crypto companies are increasingly trying to move from the traditional โ€œcrypto companyโ€ model toward regulated financial infrastructure.
If more stablecoin issuers receive national trust bank charters, the relationship between crypto, stablecoins and traditional banking could become much closer.
๐Ÿ‘€ Do you think federally regulated stablecoin banks will become a major part of crypto's next phase?
