The ECB has launched Pontes. It’s not a retail, public-facing digital euro, but a wholesale settlement channel for banks, securities issuers, and market infrastructures.

The service connects the TARGET Services with the DLT markets, with the core being the settlement of tokenized financial assets using central bank money. In plain terms, the focus isn’t on issuing new coins, but on routing on-chain assets into the traditional financial settlement infrastructure.

Market commentary is broadly bullish on the RWA and tokenized securities space, but in the short term the impact on specific tokens is limited. What’s more worth watching is whether institutions truly turn the pilot into actual trading volume. Are you more interested in RWA infrastructure, or in the tokenization of compliant securities?
