Nvidia rose 2% and Corning advanced almost 6%.
Oil prices also fell, with West Texas Intermediate crude futures down 4.5% to $95.78 a barrel and Brent settling more than 3% lower at $100.34 a barrel. The 10-year Treasury yield slipped more than 4 basis points to 4.951%.
Traders are watching this week's summit in Washington, DC between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, where artificial intelligence, the Iran war, tariffs and rare earth metals are expected to be discussed. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng before Xi's visit to the U.S. Investors are also awaiting the Richmond Federal Reserve's manufacturing survey and speeches from New York Fed President John Williams and Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin on Tuesday, along with earnings from AutoZone and KB Home.
