The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and the National Treasury are proposing new rules regarding transfers of cryptocurrencies between South Africa and abroad.
📅 September 30, 2026: deadline for submitting comments on the proposal.
🔐 Transfers from South African platforms to foreign exchanges or certain non-custodial wallets could be subject to reporting and monitoring requirements.
🎯 Goals: better track capital movements, limit attempts to bypass financial controls, and combat illicit flows.
⚠️ Important: this is not a ban on Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. The proposal is still under consultation and may be changed.
