According to CNBC, Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks said one-third of new GLP-1 pill patients are taking the company’s Foundayo as Lilly works to close the gap with rival Novo. The company broke ground Monday on a new $6.5 billion manufacturing facility at Generation Park in Houston, Texas, and said it expects the plant to be operational by 2030. The site, which will cover roughly 240 acres, will produce Foundayo and active ingredients for Lilly’s other small-molecule medicines across cardiometabolic health, oncology, immunology and neuroscience. Lilly said in February 2025 that it would spend an additional $27 billion to build four new facilities, including the Houston site, and said it has committed more than $50 billion since 2020 to expand its manufacturing network. The company said in August that Foundayo booked $98 million in second-quarter sales, its first full quarter on the market, and said Medicare’s new obesity-drug coverage that began in July is expected to broaden access to Foundayo and Zepbound.
