🚨 STOCKS | SoftBank Is Borrowing $11 BILLION to Double Down on OpenAI

The AI investment race just reached another level.

SoftBank launched more than $11 billion in new bonds today, including:

$10B in U.S. dollar bonds
€1B in euro bonds

The main reason?

To help finance another $10 billion payment into OpenAI, expected to close by October 1.

SoftBank had previously arranged a $10 billion bridge loan for the investment. The new bond issuance is designed to replace that temporary financing.

Why does this matter?

This isn’t simply another venture-capital bet.

SoftBank is putting significant balance-sheet firepower behind the idea that AI infrastructure and frontier models will become one of the world’s largest technology markets.

And that money doesn’t stop at OpenAI.

More model development can ultimately mean more demand for:

GPUs → $NVDA
Networking → $AVGO
Cloud infrastructure → $MSFT
Data-center hardware and memory

There’s also an important risk.

SoftBank is increasing its financial exposure to the AI boom at a time when valuations across the sector remain extremely aggressive.

Japan’s market is closed for a holiday today, so there is no Monday SoftBank share-price reaction yet.

Watch when Tokyo reopens:

SoftBank / 9984

And in the U.S.:

$NVDA • $MSFT • $AVGO

The bigger question:

If SoftBank is willing to raise $11B in debt to increase its OpenAI exposure, how much larger does it believe the AI opportunity can become?
