Coinbase CEO Armstrong fires on X, calling out a Wall Street Journal piece that attributes the Senate’s failure to push through the CLARITY Act to him and Coinbase. He says the outlet has consistently been hostile to the legislation, repeatedly repackaging talking points from bank lobbying. Armstrong emphasized that what he opposed earlier this year was only the draft—at the time, four major sticking points had not been fixed: DeFi, tokenization, the scope of the CFTC’s authority, and stablecoin yield. After all of those were addressed, he fully supports the final version being put forward for review. On September 15, the Senate fell short of the 60-vote threshold by a 49–50 margin, and the bill stalled. Seven Democratic senators said afterward that they would continue discussions.
