#Lighter’s codebase adds support for prediction markets, and a single submission involves 88 files
Lighter is at it again.
According to disclosures from the on-chain community, Lighter’s prover codebase recently saw a commit titled “Binary options support.” A single submission involves 88 files and adds ZK circuit support for binary options/prediction markets.
What does this mean?
Lighter’s most core tag was originally a high-performance perpetual contract DEX, but from the code level, it appears to be trying to further expand its trading scenarios into prediction markets.
The current design is pretty interesting: prediction contracts can be fully collateralized with USDC—no leverage required—and there’s no traditional perpetual contract liquidation/explosion mechanism. The market price fluctuates between 0 and the settlement cap, and the final settlement is based on the event outcome.
Even more noteworthy is that the code supports not only binary results like “yes/no,” but also continuous-range settlement. In other words, in theory, what can be built in the future is not limited to “whether a certain event will happen,” but could also include markets around continuous variables such as price and data indicators.
